I have been studying natural medicine and the human mind for over twenty years. I have my own autoimmune story, which contributed to me wanting to take control of my health. Now I help others do the same!
My mother had an extremely traumatic pregnancy. Her sister died in suffering when my mum was 3 months pregnant. My mum was 22 years old at the time and found it very difficult to deal with the loss.
According to her consultant (clearly a very forward-thinking man as this was over 40 years ago!), her mental state was directly linked to the outcome of the pregnancy. My sibling died in the womb, and both myself and my mum almost died as she went into labour. But in the end, we did survive!
As a result of all this, I was quite weak and vulnerable as a child. Always at the doctor’s. Through my early and teenage years I struggled physically but also emotionally as a result of bullying and abuse I had suffered for a number of years.
Then, I turned into one of these people who was always stressed and worried about the silliest of things. I tried to control everyone and everything around me. I did not enjoy my life at this point but I always knew there was more to life, and I was determined to find the answers and sort out both my physical and emotional health!
All the trauma and stress led to my being diagnosed with M.E., which was probably the main trigger for my developing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I have fully recovered from M.E. and I have also reversed the Hashimoto’s.
Of course, I still follow an anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle protocol, and look after my gut. I have also healed all the trauma and I have completely altered my response to life stressors. Every now and again I still get it wrong but overall life is wonderful now!
I live in a beautiful place with my amazing husband, and my professional life revolves around helping other people overcome their autoimmune struggles! I am grateful and I consider it a privilege to be part of other people’s journey.
I believe that we are all very unique individuals, and as such each person requires an approach that reflects their biochemical, psychological, and emotional individuality. We are all shaped by a myriad of factors, including past experiences, dietary, psychological, lifestyle, as well as socio-economic determinants. If we want to optimise our health, we need to balance of all of these factors.
I am purposely not mentioning genetics here because science has repeatedly shown us that the genetic component is a small part of the overall picture. Rather than cry our eyes out and feel hard done-by because we may be genetically predisposed to autoimmunity, why not focus on all the things we CAN do to remain in control of our health? This includes altering our genetic expression through optimising all the other factors! That is what I choose to do and I hope you will decide to do the same for yourself.
Any presenting symptoms are our body’s way of telling us that the balance has been disrupted. This is certainly true for people with autoimmune disorders. Good news is that the body has an amazing ability to repair, regenerate and re-balance itself, given the right nutritional and psychological support, as well as a supportive environment. Even though, it may not always be possible for people with autoimmune conditions to return to full health, there is so much we can do to help ourselves and be at our optimal level of well-being!
Combining a vast range of mind-transforming modalities, my knowledge of human physiology, biochemistry, and pathology, as well as years of studying and practicing nutritional therapy enables me to provide a truly integrated approach to helping clients optimize their minds and bodies to heal from autoimmune disease.
I believe in addressing root cause of presenting health problems, both at the physiological and psychological level. In contrast to many other practitioners, I do place a huge emphasis on the mind factor as I do believe very strongly that when the mind is healed the body will follow. This does not mean that I underplay the physiological aspects of autoimmunity. I simply combine both. The mind and the body should never be treated separately in the first place!
My approach is client-centred and highly personalised. It is very much a partnership. Any necessary changes should be made at a pace that is right for the client, and should be achievable, realistic, and sustainable in the long-term. I hope that we will get to work together to help you optimise your mind and your body for healing!
